Although the Lake is only 75 years old, the area is rich in history.
The Osage Indians first settled the Ozark hills, but Lewis and Clark
were the first to describe the natural wonders of the Ozark Mountains.
Civil War, westward expansion, and railroads all helped develop
this area, long before the Osage River was dammed.
You can read all about the Great Osage River Project and Lake of the Ozarks Heritage by visiting the various pages in the history section. And don't forget to check out the many museums located through out the Lake of the Ozarks. |
