Come Out and Play!

The Lake of the Ozarks provides fishing enthusiasts, swimmers, boaters, water-skiers and sailors with an excellent water playground. Off the water, visitors can enjoy golf, tennis, hiking, and a variety of other recreational activities.

Fishing – The Lake of the Ozarks is recognized by many tournament pros as one of the best year-round fishing spots in the country. Largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, stripers, catfish and others are the subjects of many an Ozark fish story. For serious anglers, many tournaments are held at the Lake , but the family fisherman can also enjoy well-baited docks at the majority of resorts, and heated docks attract anglers from throughout the Midwest for winter fishing. The fishery at the Lake of the Ozarks is managed and regulated by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Hunting – Wild game abounds in the forests and fields surrounding the Lake of the Ozarks . In season, hunters may stalk deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, dove, duck, geese and quail near and on the Lake . From spring turkey to winter waterfowl, there's a season and a species to suit every hunter's preference. Most hunting in the Lake area is done on private land with permission of the landowner or on special hunting preserves.

Water Sports – Water fun at the Lake includes swimming at beaches and pools located at area resorts, hotels, motels and condominium complexes; waterskiing; parasailing; and boating. No boat? No problem! Marinas and most resorts rent a variety of water craft to meet every need and desire.

Golf – Growing steadily in popularity as a golf destination, the Lake boasts 17 courses and 288 holes of golf. The resort courses have hosted the PGA's oldest event, the Club Pro Championship, and other tournaments, and are open year-round with the primary golf season running March through November. For further details, see the “Golf Capital of America's Heartland” page.

Tennis / Racquetball – More than 60 tennis courts are located throughout the Lake area. The biggest tennis resort is the Country Club Hotel & Spa in Lake Ozark . The hotel's racquet and fitness facility boasts four indoor and 12 outdoor courts (three clay and nine hard surface). Other popular resorts (such as Tan-Tar-A and The Lodge of Four Seasons) offer outdoor courts for their guests.

Other Recreational Activities – Trap shooting, horseback riding and bowling are among other popular recreational pursuits offered at the Lake . For scenic enjoyment year-round, hiking trails are available at the Lake of the Ozarks State Park and Ha Ha Tonka State Park (see “Experience the Great Outdoors” page).
