"Liverpool Legends" Salutes the Beatles, Mar 6-7
at Central Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks
Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. –Meet the Beatles—that is, the ultimate Beatles tribute band in the world, Liverpool Legends, performing for the first time at the Lake of the Ozarks at Main Street Theater on Main Street Landing in Osage Beach for two unforgettable shows: 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7. Tickets will be $20 per person, $12 for children 12 or younger and may be purchased at the Lake of the Ozarks Convention & Visitors Bureau, 5815 Highway 54, or by calling (800) FUN-LAKE or (573) 348-1599.
Louise Harrison, sister of the late George Harrison, personally selected the George, John, Paul and Ringo look-alikes, play-alikes and sound-alikes who perform as Liverpool Legends at the Starlite Theatre in Branson. “Basically I formed the group because there are 300 to 500 Beatles bands throughout the world and they’re all always working, so I knew there must be a demand,” says Harrison. “When I met Marty Scott, who plays George, I had a ‘Twilight Zone’ type feeling that George found him to be my brother. We decided to try to put together something excellent and I truly believe we have succeeded.”
The group came together in 2006 in Branson, where, in their first year, they received the Branson Critic Fans’ award for Best New Show and Best Band--no minor accomplishment in a town with 140-plus shows. In 2007, Liverpool Legends once again received the Best Band award, as well as the prestigious Branson Critic Editor's Choice for the Best Show in Branson.
Harrison says Liverpool Legends’ “John” is “absolutely superb. Kevin Mantegna is just like John even when he’s not pretending to be him.” Regarding “Paul,” she says, “Davey Justice was the best Paul, but we told him he had to play left-handed bass and he worked very hard to achieve it.” The group’s “Ringo,” Greg George, was a veteran of the Beatles tribute band 1964. Members of Liverpool Legends have toured the world, playing in historic venues such as Carnegie Hall and The Cavern Club in Liverpool; they have recorded at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London and performed with Denny Laine (co-founder of Wings with Paul McCartney), Pete Best (the original Beatles drummer) and the Boston Pops. They appeared on The Travel Channel's "Beatlemania Britain" and headlined "International Beatles Week" in Liverpool where 100,000 Beatles fans jammed Victoria Street to hear them in concert.
Harrison adds she worked with the band to incorporate many ideas from conversations she had with her brother; as a result, she says, “This is the kind of band with whom George would have enjoyed playing.”
The group covers the entire career of The Beatles and the solo years, with precise attention to every musical detail, costume changes, vintage instruments and special effects. “The most common comment from the audience is, ‘If I closed my eyes I could swear I’m hearing the Beatles, and when I open my eyes I can swear I’m watching them,’” she says. “The show makes people glow and puts a spring in their step. It brings back happy memories for a couple of hours.”
Liverpool Legends’ performances will be sponsored by the Tri County Lodging Association in association with the Lake of the Ozarks Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We’re so excited to bring Liverpool Legends to the Lake of the Ozarks. The group truly is the best Beatles tribute band in the world and Louise Harrison’s involvement adds real credibility,” says TCLA Executive Director Jim Divincen. “Several Lake-area lodging properties are offering special rates, so we urge everyone to come see this amazing group and enjoy a winter weekend at the Lake.” Adds TCLA Board Chairperson Karen Medders, “We’re always seeking special events to bring to the Lake and we are thrilled that Liverpool Legends will perform in our community.”
DJ Mike Clayton of Benne Broadcasting’s The Mix 92.7 will emcee both shows.
