Full-Service Resorts Have it All On-Site
at Central Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, MO --For a lot of people, "vacation" means they can eat, sleep, play and relax without leaving their lodging. At Central Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks, four full-service resorts offer a wide array of amenities specifically for these vacationers: The Country Club Hotel and Spa, The Lodge of Four Seasons and The Resort at Port Arrowhead (formerly Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort) in Lake Ozark; and Tan-Tar-A Resort, Golf Club, Marina and
Indoor Waterpark in Osage Beach.

"We have a tremendous variety of accommodations at the Lake of the Ozarks and full-service resorts are among the most popular choices," says Trish Roberts, executive director of the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. "These resorts
offer families on vacation the option to enjoy activities right on the premises or to venture out to other attractions."

With its white stucco buildings and red tile roofs, the Mediterranean-influenced Country Club Hotel and Spa is secluded and serene. "We're definitely a destination, but you won't just happen to run into us," says General Manager Tom Moriarty. "We're the best-kept secret at the Lake, away from the hustle and bustle but close to golf and other activities." He describes the AAA triple-diamond-rated property, built in 1999, as "a 500-room hotel with 83 rooms, and 60 of those are suites." In other words, the cozy hotel offers a range of amenities and services more typical of larger resorts.

Among the main attractions are the year-round tennis programs for adults and children, coordinated by a tennis pro on staff. The resort offers indoor and outdoor courts, including clay courts. The Racquet and Fitness facility features racquetball courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a fully equipped fitness center. The resort's Healing Oasis Spa specializes in massage therapy, body wraps and exfoliation treatments to condition the skin and increase circulation. A sauna and hot tub also are available.

Although the Country Club Hotel & Spa is not located right on the Lake, "we offer spectacular 25-mile views," Moriarty notes. Guests and locals alike enjoy dining at the Bourbon Street Grill where renowned jazz clarinetist Lynn Zimmer and The Jazz Band perform four nights a week.

The Lodge of Four Seasons, one of the best-known Lake resorts, turned 40 last year. The resort offers 300 rooms and 50 condo units, plus plenty of things to do for guests of all ages.

Golfers will appreciate the Lodge's championship golf courses -- Witch's Cove, a Robert Trent Jones Sr. signature course, and Seasons Ridge Golf Club -- which have earned the Lodge a 4-Star rating from Golf Digest. Lodge guests
also will have tee times available at The Club at Porto Cima, a Jack Nicklaus signature course. And there's a 9-hole short game course. Other activities include swimming in four pools, boating, water skiing, trapshooting, horseback riding, jet skiing and fishing. Boat and jet-ski rentals are available at the Lodge's full-service, 120-slip marina. There's also a
cinema, Adventure Club for children and a fitness room.

"A lot of guests simply enjoy strolling on the grounds and visiting our beautiful Japanese gardens," says General Manager Dean Chininis. "Also our guests like our spaciousness and interesting rooms. We are right on the Lake and nearly every room has a wonderful Lake view."

A major attraction at the Lodge is Spa Shiki, a serene and beautifully designed retreat offering a variety of massage therapies, facials and salon treatments. Its signature treatment, the Japanese Cleansing Ritual, combines herbal exfoliation, a Japanese bath and an aromatherapy massage. Other popular treatments are the Couples Massage, Golfer's Delight and the Ginseng Body Wrap and Contour Treatment. The spa has a large whirlpool area, wet and dry steam
rooms and a hydrotherapy room.

The Lodge of Four Seasons offers several dining options, including Breezes for breakfast and lunch, Soleil-A Sidewalk Café, HK's for dinner and Seasons Ridge Grill at the golf course for breakfast and lunch. After hours, the Blue Moon bar offers more than 200 martinis.

Resorts & Great Hotels, The Connoisseur's Guide to the World's Best, recently named The Lodge of Four Seasons a "Connoisseur's Choice." The Lodge also has received the hospitality industry's Gold Key Award for Excellence and the
Pinnacle Award from corporate and association meeting/travel planners. "We recently received a triple-diamond rating from AAA," Chininis adds.

Opened as a Holiday Inn in 1963, The Resort at Port Arrowhead has 207 rooms, including 12 suites, offering views of the Lake, the pool or Port Arrowhead Marina. A major property-wide remodeling was completed in 2002.

"Most of our guests are business people but on weekends and throughout the summer, family fun and reunions are our specialty," says Mark Bowman, general manager. "We are very value oriented. Most rates include a full free breakfast. Youngsters 19 and under stay for free, and kids 12 and under eat free."

The Resort offers indoor and outdoor pools, live poolside entertainment and the popular "Dive-In Movie" on weekends. There are two hot tubs, complimentary miniature golf, a fitness room and the AAA triple-diamond-rated Portside
Restaurant featuring a fabulous Lake view.

A complete Arrowhead Activities Program is offered daily during the summer for kids age 4-16. "The children's program really is exceptional," Bowman says. "A lot of people come back year after year just for that." He adds, "Guests really appreciate how compact and convenient we are. Also we are close to more than a dozen championship golf courses and Lake attractions."

Tan-Tar-A opened July 4, 1960 with 12 cabins. Today Tan-Tar-A Resort, Golf Club, Marina and Indoor Waterpark is the largest resort at the Lake, covering 420 scenic Ozark acres and offering 497 rooms in the main hotel complex and
400 condos in Tan-Tar-A Estates.

Tan-Tar-A's newest attraction is the 20,000-sq.-ft. Timber Falls indoor waterpark, the largest in Missouri. It features two water slides, a lazy river for tube floating, activity pool, 21-seat whirlpool, three-story treehouse with suspension bridges and a six-foot wide wooden bucket that holds more than 700 gallons of water and tips over every few minutes.

General Manager Fred Dehner explains Timber Falls was a natural next step after the resort's outdoor Arrowhead Pool underwent a $1 million makeover. "Response to that was fabulous," Dehner says. "We saw the interest in our new
pool and recognized we could extend the family season throughout the year." The addition of Timber Falls and the 4,000-sq.-ft. Bears Dean arcade, plus renovations to the 8-lane bowling alley "have changed our winters dramatically,"
Dehner says.

Tan-Tar-A has two world-class golf courses. The Oaks with 18 holes was a host site of the 1994 PGA Club Professional Championship. Hidden Lakes has been ranked by USA Today as one of the best 9-hole courses in the United States. And speaking of golf, Tan-Tar-A's miniature golf course recently was renovated with a fountain and winding stream.

The Windjammer Spa is a bright, comfortable, two-floor facility offering massages, facial treatments and full salon services. Among the most popular treatments are the Aromatherapy Hydrobath with essential oils for calming or
energizing, the Marine Algae Whirlpool, the luxurious Paraffin Full Body Wrap and the Herbal Line Wrap in unbleached linen sheets steamed in fragrant herbs. Couples enjoy the private heart-shaped whirlpool and massage for two.

At the Tan-Tar-A marina you can rent a paddleboat, ski boat, fishing boat or jet skis. Guests may go horseback riding, parasailing or cruising on the Ozark Princess excursion boat. The fitness center offers exercise equipment, an indoor pool and tanning beds. Youngsters age 4-10 can participate in supervised activities including movies and games at the Kids Kabin.

Tan-Tar-A also features several specialty shops, five lounges and four restaurants, from fast food to the AAA triple-diamond rated Windrose Restaurant and the rustic Black Bear Lodge.
