Shop Till You Drop, Say "Ahhhhh" at a Spa
at Central Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks

Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. – The main attraction at Central Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks is, of course, the Lake, and all the fun visitors can have on it, in it or near it.  But there are two other Lake-area activities that attract an increasing number of visitors year-round: shopping and spa-ing. The Lake is gaining a reputation as the go-to destination for some of the finest stores and spas in Missouri and beyond.  Best of all, select lodging facilities offer money-saving packages that combine shopping and/or spa treatments with comfortable accommodations.

# SHOPPING

The largest outlet center in Missouri is on Highway 54 at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Osage Beach Premium Outlets offers 110 designer and brand-name stores, including Adidas, Eddie Bauer, Liz Claiborne, Nautica, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Jones New York, Brooks Brothers, Coach, Le Creuset, BCBG Max Azria and more, offering 25-65 percent savings every day.  The center covers 400,000 square feet on 60 acres and is home to several restaurants and a five-screen cinema.  It sponsors frequent special promotions, and members of its VIP and 50-Plus Shopper Clubs receive additional discounts.

“Shopping is one of the most popular activities for travelers today and at Osage Beach Premium Outlets we want to give visitors to the Lake a fun and high quality outlet shopping experience,” says General Manager Steve Jeanis.  “We work in partnership with a variety of lodging facilities to help provide a first-class stay in the area for our first-class shoppers who seek great deals on designer and name brands.”

For example, the center teams up with Lake Ozark Vacations, a PMG Company, to offer a popular “Gas, Shop & Dine” package including a $25 gas card, $50 dinner voucher, a $50 shopping spree and a VIP coupon book good for hundreds of dollars in savings at Osage Beach Premium Outlets.  The package starts at $49 per person/per night for two nights in one of the company’s beautiful rental condos or homes.  “The Ultimate Shopping Adventure” package includes a $25 shopping spree and an outlet center VIP coupon booklet, a $50 dinner voucher and the use of a limousine for three hours, starting at $77.50 per person, per night for two nights.  Then there’s the “Shop & Dine” package, offering a $50 outlet center shopping spree and VIP coupon book, plus a $50 dinner voucher, starting at $47 per person, per night for two nights.

“We book a lot of these packages because they are such a good value,” says James Leveridge, Lake Ozark Vacations director of lodging and marketing.  “Four to six friends or more can stay together at a beautiful lakefront condo with up to six bedrooms, just minutes from the outlets, and unwind after a day of shopping.”

The outlet center and the Inn at Harbour Ridge Bed & Breakfast offer the “Shop Till Ya Drop at the Lake’s Best” package, which invites you to “Shop at the Osage Beach Premium Outlets; then drop into your twosome tubby or private starlit hot tub.”  It includes a $50 shopping spree, VIP coupon booklet and two nights lodging at the charming inn, starting at $325 weekdays, $375 weekends.

The inn’s “Retail Therapy” package also includes a $50 shopping spree and VIP coupon booklet for the outlet center, plus a “buried treasure map” to the Lake’s Top 10 gift shops, and a $40 “on the water” dinner gift certificate, starting at $415 for two people for two nights.  Or perhaps you’d prefer the “Big Girls Weekend Away,” featuring goodie bags, appetizers, deluxe breakfasts, in-room massages and a shopping trip to Osage Beach Premium Outlets.  Rates start at $800 for four so-called Damsels in D-Stress for two rooms for two nights.  And the “Happy Hearts Special” combines romance and shopping for couples, including a $100 shopping spree at Osage Beach Premium Outlets, dinner for two at the Brass Door Restaurant, breakfast and more starting at $525 for two nights.

The Resort at Port Arrowhead teams up with Osage Beach Premium Outlets to offer seasonal packages, such as the “Winter Special,” featuring two nights lodging, breakfast at the Portside Restaurant, gift basket, cocktails, a VIP coupon book and shuttle service to the outlet center, starting at $169.90, double occupancy.  The year-round "Girls Just Want To Have Fun!" package includes two nights’ lodging, a private half hour in-room massage, cocktails, breakfast, plus two $25 shopping sprees to Osage Beach Premium Outlets and a goodie bag including hundreds of dollars in coupons and discounts, starting at $82.16 per person, per night based on double occupancy.

Osage Beach Premium Outlets also teams up with Lake Chateau Resort to offer a “Girlfriends Shop & Play Package” including three nights lodging, a $25 shopping spree and VIP coupon book for $116 per person, double occupancy.  Big Bear Resort offers “Shop ‘til You Drop, Relax to the Max,” including a VIP coupon book and a $25 shopping spree at the center and two nights’ lodging – the second one’s half-price.  And at the Quail’s Nest Resort, located next-door to the outlet center, shoppers who take advantage of the “Shop & Stay” promotion receive a VIP coupon book and the third night at half price.

Other outlet-center partners, including Osage Village (walking distance to the outlet center), Golden Door Resort Motel, Hawk’s Nest Lodge & Condominiums, Holiday Inn Express, Inn at the Grand Glaize and Seascape Resort treat their guests to a voucher for a free Osage Beach Premium Outlets VIP coupon book.  For a complete list of outlet center lodging partners, visit www.premiumoutlets.com/osage.

Beyond the outlet center, visitors who come to the Lake of the Ozarks also enjoy shopping at The Landing on Main Street, on Highway 54.  This Victorian-themed shopping village, complete with wooden sidewalks, features 20-plus shops and services including Blair’s fine apparel for men and women, a Brighton store, home décor, art galleries, flowers, and antiques, as well as a tea room and the original Ozark Maid Candies.

Shoppers also head for the famous Bagnell Dam “Strip” for souvenirs, t-shirts, leather goods, fudge, swimwear, sunglasses and more.  Of course no shopping trip to the Lake of the Ozarks is complete without a stop at the Dogpatch Store, opened in 1947. The huge store is known for its friendly atmosphere, quirky features and amazing selection of gifts, toys, jewelry, candy and décor items.

From nationally known brand-name stores to small, unique boutiques, you’ll find items for the family, home, outdoors, gifts and more, plus dozens of antique shops and flea markets at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Best of all, shopping at the Lake is an activity that can be indulged in any time of year, in any kind of weather.  And if you’re Christmas shopping, you’ll find excellent off-season rates at area lodging, so you’ll have more money to spend on gifts!

# SPA-ING

Lodging facilities throughout the Lake of the Ozarks also offer money-saving packages that include relaxing and pampering spa services.  For example, the Lodge of Four Seasons is the home of the nationally recognized Spa Shiki (which means “four seasons” in Japanese).  In the fall of 2006, Spa Shiki was recognized as among the top two resort spas in the Midwest, according to the readers of Travel + Leisure: Golf.  Set in a serene interior with Asian influences, Spa Shiki offers a unique menu of more than 100 Japanese and American services and spa treatments that help clients achieve a new sense of self and well being – from Swedish-style massage to the Japanese stone massage, plus hydrotherapy, body treatments, facials and salon services, as well as a fitness center, steam, sauna and whirlpool.

“The Lodge of Four Seasons has more than 40 years of experience as a great vacation destination at Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks.  Spa Shiki combines with The Lodge to give guests the luxury, world-class spa experience that so many travelers now seek, plus the service and quality The Lodge is known for,” says Ann Brown, Spa Shiki director.  “We design spa packages to offer value as well as convenience, bringing all the details together for your trip to Spa Shiki and the Lodge of Four Seasons.”

The Lodge offers three popular spa packages.  “Four Seasons Experience” includes two Swedish massages at Spa Shiki and two rounds of golf at one of the Lodge’s championship courses for two nights starting at $514, double occupancy.  For two to six friends, the “Girlfriends Getaway Package” offers a welcome basket, a Swedish massage or deep cleansing facial, pedicure, VIP spa pass to the sauna, whirlpool, steam and meditation room and Spa lunch; groups of six receive a $40 credit to HK’s restaurant.  What's more, guests will receive a VIP coupon book for Osage Beach Premium Outlets.  Prices start at $471 for two nights, double occupancy.  And for hopeless romantics, "Romance at The Lodge" offers two nights lodging, breakfast for two both mornings, a 50-minute Couples Massage at Spa Shiki, two souvenir bathrobes, a one-hour scenic cruise for two (weather permitting, in season) and dinner for two one evening at the award-winning H.K.'s restaurant, renowned for its extensive wine list and excellent steaks.  Rates start at $634 for double occupancy in a traditional room.

Located at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Golf Club, Marina & Indoor Waterpark, the Windjammer Spa & Salon is a bright, comfortable, two-floor facility decorated with stone and other natural materials.  Many of the massage and treatment rooms have beautiful lake views.  Popular services include massages, bodywraps, facials, hydrotherapy, manicures and pedicures.  The spa also has a full-service salon, steam and wet rooms.  The “Spa Getaway” package includes a massage, purifying wrap and detox bath, or a massage, aroma wrap and deep cleansing facial, for $409 for one night, double occupancy.  “Our spa getaway package is a great value, including some of our repeat customers’ favorite services,” says Manager Shelly Hale.  “Tan-Tar-A offers such a beautiful atmosphere and our friendly staff strives to give each guest the best service possible.  If it is a true getaway you are looking for, we have the location and the service to take you away from it all!”

The Healing Oasis at the Country Club Hotel & Spa specializes in massage therapy, including full-body Swedish, deep tissue, sports massages, healing stone, and more.  Body wraps and other treatments also are offered in the soothing massage and treatment rooms.  The hotel’s spa package includes two single massages or a couple’s massage, plus breakfast and an Osage Beach Premium Outlets VIP coupon book starting at $240 for one night, double occupancy.  The “Romance Package” includes champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, breakfast, an outlet center VIP coupon book, and dinner for two in the hotel’s Bourbon Street Grill, featuring authentic New Orleans cuisine and world-renowned jazz clarinetist Lynn Zimmer and The Jazz Band, starting at $268, double occupancy.

Several other day spas at the Lake of the Ozarks also offer soothing and relaxing getaways for an hour, a morning or afternoon or an entire day, including A Serene Escape, Healthy Concepts and Palazzo Spa.
